Safety Precautions When Working With Batteries

Danger of injury and property damage

Escaping acids can lead to chemical burns. The resulting oxyhydrogen gas can lead to explosions.

Use personal protective equipment.
Pay attention to information and operating instructions on the battery.
Before touching the battery, touch the vehicle body to prevent sparking from electrostatic charging.
Provide suitable countermeasures.
Only work on batteries in well-ventilated and suitable rooms.
Work that creates sparks, such as grinding, welding, cutting work and open flames, is prohibited.
Batteries whose "ALI (Acid Level Indicator)" is light yellow must be replaced. They may not be tested or charged. No jump start may be used.
Do not set any tools down on batteries.
Do not tilt batteries because electrolyte can leak from the vent openings.
Which side the battery is vented on is relevant to safety.
In use cases where a gas breather hose is used, pay attention to the correct seating of the gas breather hose and make sure that the vent opening on the opposite side is sealed.
