Bolts And Nuts

• All threaded connections must be tightened according to the specifications to ensure safe operation in road traffic.
• Loosen the bolts opposite of the tightening sequence.
• Loosen and tighten the bolts and nuts crosswise in stages if no tightening sequence is specified.
• Always replace self-locking nuts.
• Always replace self-locking screws. For exceptions, see the overviews.
• Always replace corroded bolts and nuts.
• If self-locking bolts were installed or if bolts were installed with locking fluid, then the threaded holes must be cleaned, for example with a thread tap. Otherwise there is the risk that the bolts could break off when they are removed again.
• The blind hole threads must be free of fluid and debris.
• The tightening specifications given apply to unoiled bolts and nuts.
• The specified tightening specifications are applicable with a standard tool. A correction value must be taken into account when using socket wrenches.

Self-tapping bolts:

• Screwing into existing threads: position self-tapping bolts by hand and screw in so that the bolts find the old threads again. Then tighten the bolts to the tightening specifications.
• Install in the new tapping threads: position the self-tapping bolts on the holes and install all the way under light pressure. The bolts will cut a new thread by doing so. Then tighten the bolts to the tightening specifications.
