Airbag Unit With Igniter, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- The ignition remains switched on for the following steps.
-- Move the steering wheel as far to the rear and down as possible. Use the full steering column adjustment range for this.
-- Turn the steering wheel -1- 90° clockwise -arrow A- from the straight-ahead position.
Conditions
- The opening -arrow B- at the rear side of the steering wheel must be pointing upward, positioned at 12 o'clock, as shown in the example.
-- Guide a screwdriver -1- (approximately 80 mm long) all the way in the opening.
-- Release the locking bracket for the airbag by pulling the screwdriver upward with force -arrow-, as shown in the example.
-- The airbag catch in direction of -arrow B- is loosened from the steering wheel by pressing down the locking bracket -1-.
-- Turn the steering wheel -1- back approximately 180° counter-clockwise -arrow A-.
Conditions
- The opening -arrow B- at the rear side of the steering wheel must be pointing upward, positioned at 12 o'clock, as shown in the example.
-- Guide the screwdriver -1- all the way into the opening.
-- Release the locking bracket for the airbag by pulling the screwdriver upward with force in direction of -arrow-, as shown in the example.
-- This will loosen the second locking tab in direction of -arrow A- on the steering wheel.
There is a risk of damaging the airbag unit if force is used.
- Never remove the airbag unit by pulling forcefully.
-- If the airbag unit cannot be detached, push it back into the steering wheel and repeat the procedure.
Conditions
- The airbag unit remains in the steering wheel.
-- Bring the steering wheel back into the center (wheels are straight).
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
Risk of injury.
- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- Remove the airbag -1- from the steering wheel slightly.
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Disconnect the connector -3-, for that remove the connector lock -4-, as shown in the example.
-- Store the airbag with the cushion facing upward.
