Headliner, Lowering

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Pry Lever:80-200 
• Removal Wedge:T40233 
• Scraper Set:VAS 6845 

Procedure

-- Move the rear headrests into the lowest position.

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to Sun Visor, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the sun visor center support. Refer to Sun Visor Center Support, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to Roof Grab Handle, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Detach the B-pillar upper trim panels (refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ) and move to the side with the seat belt.

-- Remove the C-pillar upper trim panel. Refer to UPPER C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the rear side window trim panels. Refer to REAR SIDE WINDOW TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Conditions

• Replace the headliner if it is bent.

-- Unclip the headliner at the outer retainers from the body in direction of -outer arrows-.

-- Use the Pry Lever:80-200  to unclip the back of the headliner at the -1 and 3- in the center of the body -center arrow-.

-- Carefully guide the Pry Lever:80-200  between the headliner and body.

-- Release the rear centering drift -arrow- in the center with the pry lever.

-- Free up the headliner in the area near the inner door seals.

-- Insert the scraper no. 1 -1- from the Scraper Set:VAS 6845  between the roof module and cover.

-- Unclip the cover -2- in direction of -arrows-, for this turn the scraper around its own axle.

-- Disengage the retaining strap -3- from the cover.

-- Remove the front roof module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Unclip the clips -1- -arrows-.

-- Carefully lower the headliner -2- and place it on the seats.

Versions with Panorama Roof:

-- To avoid dirtying the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge:T40233  .

-- Push the trim removal wedge between the frame -1- and the headliner.

-- Using the trim removal wedge, loosen the headliner all the way around the frame in direction of -arrows-.

-- Carefully lower the headliner and place it on the seats.

Continuation for All Vehicles

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Align the headliner, for this, press in the centering pin at the rear of the headliner until it engages audibly in the body mounting point.

-- Install the sun visor center support. Refer to Sun Visor Center Support, Removing and Installing .

-- Stretch over the lip of the luggage compartment and inner door seals.

Vehicles with Panorama roof

-- Clip the sides of the headliner into the frame, and then into the front and rear.
