Engine And Transmission, Separating, 3.0L Engine
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 1332 Insert - Ring Wrench - 16mm:VAG1332/14
- Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS6131/10
- Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set:VAS6131/12 , not illustrated
- Hose Clip Pliers:VAS6362
- Wrench - 21mm:T40263
- Adapter:T40314
Procedure
- Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B .
-- Free up the wiring harnesses on the bracket -arrow-.
-- Free up the wiring duct -4- on the right coolant pipe and on the subframe.
-- Remove the nut -2- and bolt -3-. Then remove the right coolant pipe.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the left coolant pipe.
-- Remove the rear bolts -arrows- on the crossbrace end panel.
Risk of accident due to the heavy weight of the subframe.
- A second technician is required for the following work steps.
-- Remove the left and right bolt -2- and remove the subframe to the side to do so remove the supporting mounting element. (Shown with the engine installed.)
-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.
Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.
- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.
-- To loosen the bolts, counterhold the crankshaft using the Wrench - 21mm:T40263 and Adapter:T40314 on the vibration damper.
-- Remove the six bolts -arrow- on the drive plate -1-. Turn the crankshaft an additional 60° in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Remove the right front muffler nuts -arrows-.
Risk of damaging the coupling due to improper handling.
- Coupling must not be bent more than 10°.
- Do not load the coupling on the cable.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the right front muffler.
-- Remove the connector -1- for the Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -GX7- from the bracket, disconnect it and free up the wire.
-- Remove the left and right bolt -arrow- from the catalytic converter bracket.
-- Remove the bolt -1- enough until the screw-type clamp -2- can be opened.
-- Open and remove the screw-type clamp.
-- Remove the catalytic converter -3-.
-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose.
-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B as follows:
- The remaining mounting elements remain unchanged.

-- Place the left and right mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set :VAS6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set:VAS6131/12 on the engine.
-- Place the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set :VAS6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set :VAS6131/12 on the left side of the transmission.
-- Place the mounting element from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set :VAS6131/10 on the right side of the transmission.
-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.
-- Tighten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B .
-- Remove the bolts -2 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.
-- Loosen the bolt -1- for the starter.
-- Loosen the clamping screws on the side of the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B and pull the rear table top with the transmission slightly to the rear -arrow-. While doing so, remove the starter bolt completely.
-- Pull the transmission all the way to the rear. If necessary, lower it slightly using the front spindles.
