Fuel Tank, Removing, TFSI Vehicles
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set - Mounting Pin:VAS6131/10-2 from Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS6131/10
- Mount : VAS6131/13-2 and Plate:VAS6131/13-4 from the VAS6131/13:Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set
- Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931
- Rear Axle Support: T10552 without Mounting Pin Threaded Sleeve: T10552/1 and Support : T10552/2
- M8x25 bolts
Tool Preparation
-- Loosen the bolts -arrows-.
-- Adjust the dimension -a-.
- Dimension -a- = 250 mm.
-- Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm.
-- Position the Plate :VAS6131/13-4 with nut from the : T10552/2 and the bolt (M8X25) -arrow- on the Rear Axle Support:T10552 .
-- Bolt the Support Taper:VAS6131/10-2 with the Universal Support :VAS6131/13-2 on the plate.
-- Adjust the Plate: VAS6131/13-4 with the mounts to dimension -a-.
- Dimension -a- = 475 mm
-- Tighten the bolt -arrow- to 10 Nm.
Removing
-- Pay attention to the safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
Vehicles with High-Voltage System:
There is a risk of fatal injury due to high voltage.
Electrocution by direct contact or electric arc can cause severe bodily injury or fatal injury.
- Have an Audi high-voltage technician (HVT) or an Audi high-voltage expert (HVE) de-energize the high-voltage system.
-- De-energize the high-voltage system. Refer to [For engine(s) DPAA] High-Voltage System, De-Energizing .
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY A, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING, VEHICLES WITH ALTERNATIVE DRIVE SYSTEM, (0K4) .
There is a risk of accident due to the heavy weight of the fuel tank.
- Drain the fuel tank before removing it.
-- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, DRAINING .
-- Remove the bench seat. Refer to REAR BENCH SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Fold the insulation mat over the sealing flange cover to the side. Separate it at the perforations if necessary to do so.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the sealing flange cover -1-.
-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- on the sealing flange by releasing the connector safety catch.
-- Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the fuel filler door unit. Refer to appropriate Service Information .
Vehicles with High-Voltage System:
-- Disconnect the breather lines -1 and 2-. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
Vehicles with Tank Leak Diagnosis:
-- Remove the Fuel Tank Leak Detection Module -GX36-. Refer to Fuel Tank Leak Detection Module -GX36-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
A6:
-- Remove the fuel filler neck bolts -arrows-.
A7 Sportback:
-- Remove the fuel filler neck bolts -arrows-.
Rest of World Market-Specific Version and Vehicles with High-Voltage System:
-- Disconnect the ground wire -1- from the fuel filler neck metal ring by releasing the connector safety catch in direction of -arrow-.
Market-Specific for North America:
-- Disconnect the ground wires -1 and 2- from the fuel filler neck metal ring and protective plate by releasing the connector safety catch in direction of -arrow-.
Vehicles Without Tank leak Diagnosis:
-- Disconnect the bleeder line -1- from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Detach the breather line from the brackets -arrows-.
Vehicles with Tank Leak Diagnosis or High-Voltage System:
-- Disconnect the bleeder line -1- from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Disengage and free up the bleeder line at the bracket -arrow-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the right and center rear underbody trim panels. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the diagonal brace. Refer to DIAGONAL BRACES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the subframe. Refer to appropriate Service Information .
Vehicles with High-Voltage System:
-- Remove the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-. Refer to appropriate Service Information .
-- Free up the high-voltage cables on the fuel tank. Refer to appropriate Service Information .
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Unclip the breather line on the fuel filler neck from the bracket -2-.
-- Disconnect the breather line -1- on the fuel tank. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Carefully pull the breather line outward -arrow- and free it up.
Equipment Versions for Specific Countries/Rest of World only Vehicles without High-Voltage System:
-- Disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Disconnect the fuel line -2-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Detach the rubber bushing -3- at the bracket and hang the metering pump -4- to the side.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Place a cloth under the separating point to catch any escaping fuel.
-- Disconnect the fuel line -arrow-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Place the prepared Rear Axle Support:T10552 on the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931 and support on the fuel tank.
-- Rotate the tapered mounting pin spindle upward until the mount : VAS6131/13-2 comes into contact with the fuel tank carrier plate.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
TIP:
For reasons of clarity, the fuel tank is shown without the engine and gearbox jack.
-- Lower the fuel tank with the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931 while guiding it by hand.
TIP:
When guiding out the fuel tank, pay attention to the clearance to the fuel filler neck.
