Instrument Panel, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Move the steering wheel as far to the rear and down as possible. Use the full steering column adjustment range for this.
-- Remove the driver airbag unit. Refer to Airbag Unit with Igniter, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the steering column upper trim panel. Refer to UPPER STEERING COLUMN TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the steering column lower trim panel. Refer to LOWER STEERING COLUMN TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the steering column switch module. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the center console. Refer to Center Console, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the instrument panel side cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Side Cover, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to Driver Side Instrument Panel Cover, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to Glove Compartment, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the instrument cluster trim. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the instrument panel decorative trims. Refer to Instrument Panel Decorative Trim, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .
-- Remove the instrument panel decorative trim bracket. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL DECORATIVE TRIM BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to OVERVIEW - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
-- Remove the outer instrument panel vent. Refer to Outer Instrument Panel Vent, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the center vent / outer front passenger side instrument panel vent. Refer to Center Vent, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-Pillar Upper Trim Panel, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the speaker trim from the instrument panel. Refer to Speaker Trim, Removing and Installing .
-- If necessary, remove the center front defroster vent. Refer to FRONT CENTER DEFROSTER VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the front speaker in the instrument panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - SOUND SYSTEM .
-- If equipped, remove the cover for instrument panel/windshield projection (Head-Up Display). Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL/WINDSHIELD PROJECTION (HEAD-UP DISPLAY) COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Cover the control module -2- with a soft towel.
-- Remove the bolts -1-, -3- and -4-.
Conditions
- Only remove the designated bolts from the control module.
- Never remove the bolts for the housing upper section.
-- Remove the mount for the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- and let it hang on the connected wires. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
Risk of injury.
- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- Release the connector lock -1- -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connectors -2-, -3- and -4- from the Front Passenger Airbag Release Valve Igniter -N491- and Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 1 -N131- and if equipped, from the Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 2 -N132-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the crossmember.
-- Remove the crossmember bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the crossmember.
-- Unclip and free up the wiring harnesses from the instrument panel.
-- Disengage the instrument panel on the front passenger side at the crossmember -2- by grabbing the instrument panel -1- by hand and remove outward from the crossmember -A arrow-.
-- At the same time, lift the instrument panel -1- slightly and remove forward from the crossmember -arrow B-.
-- Repeat the procedure on the driver side.
-- Lift up the instrument panel -1- slightly and remove it from the mounts -4- toward the rear and from the crossmember.
-- If equipped, loosen the windshield projection head up display control module -2- from its mount and position as much as possible toward the rear.
-- Lift up the instrument panel -1- and pull toward the rear while guiding out the connectors at the same time.
-- Remove the instrument panel -1- from the vehicle and lay it on a soft surface.
