Instrument Panel CROSSMEMBER, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the windshield wiper motor. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR V, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the plugs -2- outward.
-- Remove the bolts -1- for the crossmember on the plenum chamber rear panel using the Socket Bit XZN 10 :T10501 .
-- Remove the windshield. Refer to WINDSHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If installed, remove the Windshield Projection Head Up Display Control Module -J898-. Refer to WINDSHIELD PROJECTION HEAD UP DISPLAY CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to Instrument Panel, Removing and Installing .
-- If equipped, remove the Active Steering Control Module -J792-. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the footwell cover on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE FOOTWELL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If equipped, remove the Fragrance System Functional Unit -GX43-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - AIR IONIZATION .
-- Remove the left instrument panel fuse panel. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove or free up the air ducts for the instrument panel vent on the crossmember. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .
-- Remove the air distribution housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .
-- Unclip the wiring harness and free it up.
-- Remove the steering column from the instrument panel crossmember and lay it on the floor of the vehicle. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
LHD vehicle
-- Remove the bolt -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- for the heater and A/C unit.
Continuation for all vehicles
RHD vehicles
-- Remove the bolts -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- for the heater and A/C unit.
Continuation for all vehicles
Conditions
- For reinstallation, mark the vertical and lengthwise position on the instrument panel crossmember.
-- Push the carpet in the threaded connection area to the side.
-- Remove the bolts -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -2- for the heater and A/C unit.
-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.
-- Remove the bolt -1- and nut -2-.
-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.
-- Unclip, disengage and free up the wires from the crossmember.
Conditions
- A second technician is needed to remove the crossmember.
-- Disengage the instrument panel crossmember from the heater and A/C unit and remove from the vehicle interior toward the rear.
