Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, Ten-Piston Steel And Ceramic Brake: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
-- Check the brake rotors for wear and damage. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, CHECKING .
- Use the complete repair kit when installing new brake pads.
- Components to be used when installing new brake pads. Refer to Parts Information.
Health risk due to toxic dust from the brake system.
Irreversible deposit of dust particles in the lungs. Breathing impairments may occur.
- Never blow out the brake system with compressed air.
- Use only mineral spirits to clean the brake caliper.
- Do not clean ceramic brake rotors with fluids.
- Check the protective caps of the brake caliper pistons for damage and install the complete repair kit, if necessary. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER PISTON, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SIX AND TEN-PISTON BRAKE .
-- Clean the brake caliper on the brake pad retaining plate surfaces -arrows- and thinly coat them with grease.
-- Clip the brake pad retaining plates -1- into the brake caliper.
-- If re-using, install the marked brake pads in the same location.
-- Insert the brake pads -2 and 3- into the brake caliper one after the other by pressing each brake pad against the brake pad springs and pushing them all the way onto the brake pad retaining plates.
- Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly.
- Make sure the brake hose is not pinched, bent, twisted or rubbing against the vehicle.
-- Install the brake pad wear indicator wire. Refer to BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the brake caliper. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, TEN-PISTON STEEL AND CERAMIC BRAKE .
-- With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.
-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.
Faulty brakes increase the risk of an accident.
- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
