Upper Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Remove the sealant residue from the timing chain cover -1-, cylinder block and cylinder head using the Cleaning Set for Sealing Surfaces :VAS 294 019  .

• Brush:VAS 294 019/1  for gray cast-iron surfaces
• Brush:VAS 294 019/2  for aluminum surfaces
• Brush:VAS 294 019/3  for painted surfaces

-- Press the new seal into the upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER SEAL, REPLACING .

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

• Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2.5 mm).

-- Apply a sealant bead -A- to the clean sealing surface of the upper timing chain cover.

• Sealant bead thickness: 3.0 mm
• It is necessary to install the upper timing chain cover within five minutes after applying the sealant.

-- Install the upper timing chain cover and tighten the bolts.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps that match the ones used in series production. Refer to the Parts Information.
• Check the vacuum hoses for damage before the assembly and replace if necessary.

-- Install the left coolant pipe. Refer to LEFT COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the front coolant pipes. Refer to FRONT COOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, THROUGH 07/2017 .

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
