Catalytic Converter, Removing And Installing: Removing
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
-- Remove the Oxygen Sensor 1 after Catalytic Converter -GX7-. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the connector -2- for the Oxygen Sensor 1 Before Catalytic Converter -GX10- from the bracket, disconnect it and free up the wire.
Risk of injury due to flying soot particles.
Irritation and injury to skin and eyes possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
-- Remove the bolt -1- and the screw-type clamp.
-- Loosen the bolt -2- and disengage the catalytic converter upward and push to the side. (Shown with the engine removed.)
-- Loosen the left center underbody trim panel toward the exhaust system and push slightly downward. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .
Vehicles with a Particulate Filter:
-- Remove the bolt -1- and free up the control lines (example illustration).
-- Remove the connector -arrow- from the bracket and disconnect them and then free up the wires.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows-, free up the bracket -1- for the control line and push it to the side.
-- Remove the union nuts -arrow- and free up the control lines.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the right drive axle heat shield. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -A and B Arrows- and the heat shield -1-.
-- Mark the position of flexible disc and the bevel box flange to each other for reinstallation -arrows-.
-- Using a lever to counterhold the triangular flange, remove the drive axle from the bevel box -arrows-.
-- Lower the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME, LOWERING .
-- Press the engine/transmission assembly slightly forward (toward the front end) and remove the drive axle from the bevel box.
Leaks due to a damaged seal.
- Press the drive axle rearward horizontally.
- If the gasket is damaged, the drive axle must be replaced.
-- Loosen the front clamping sleeve -arrow- and push it rearward.
-- Remove the catalytic converter with particulate filter.
