Dryer Cartridge, Removing And Installing, SHOWA/KEIHIN Condenser: Removing

For all the following work, close the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set :VAS6122 .

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to Refrigerant Circuit or Working with A/C Service Station (1 Of 2) / Working with A/C Service Station (2 Of 2) .

-- Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to BUMPER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with 2.0L TFSI Engine and 2.0L TDI Engine:

-- Remove the fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with TFSI Engine:

-- Remove the air filter housing and air duct from the lock carrier. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING .

Vehicles with TDI Engine:

-- Remove the air filter housing and air duct from the lock carrier. Refer to Refer to the appropriate service information .

Radiator Mount with Catch:

-- Use diagonal pliers to cut through the radiator mount catches in direction of -arrows- on the left and right sides, and then push the top of the radiator with the charge air cooling circuit cooler slightly toward the rear. (The radiator mount can be reused).

-- Remove the left and right bolt -arrow-, and then push the radiator with the charge air cooler (or charge air cooling circuit cooler) and condenser slightly toward the rear.

CAUTION:

Danger of frostbite due to refrigerant coming out under pressure.

Frostbite on the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Evacuate or drain refrigerant and open the refrigerant circuit immediately.

- If more than 10 minutes elapse after extracting or draining the refrigerant and the refrigerant circuit has not been opened, extract or drain the refrigerant again. Pressure develops in the refrigerant circuit due to evaporation.

-- Remove the plug -1-.

-- Remove the dryer cartridge -E- upward from the condenser receiver/dryer.

-- Remove the filter element -F- upward from the condenser receiver/dryer using, for example, a commercially available pick-up tool.

-- Seal the open receiver/dryer with the plug -A- to prevent dirt and moisture from getting in.
