Heater Core, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Move the front seats as far back as possible.

-- Set the airflow direction to the windshield "defroster vent".

-- Switch off the ignition.

-- Remove the driver side footwell vent. Refer to DRIVER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If installed, remove the driver knee airbag. Refer to OVERVIEW - KNEE AIRBAG .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the nut -1- and remove the center console bracket -2-.

-- Push the section of carpet near the threaded connection -1- to the side and cover the area with plenty of absorbent materials.

-- Cover the Airbag Control Module -J234- under the heater with absorbent material to protect it from moisture.

-- Lift the catch -6- and remove the clip -5-.

-- Hold the container -1- under the connection -3- and remove the coolant line -2-. Collect any escaping coolant.

-- Remove the bolt -3- and remove the screw-type clamp -2-.

-- Position the container -1- to the side and insert a piece of waterproof cardboard or plastic sheet -2- under the connection.

-- Remove the coolant line -3- from the connection -4-. At the same time, hold the cardboard or plastic sheet -2- so that any escaping coolant will flow directly into the container -1-.

-- Immediately seal off any open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set :VAS6122  .

-- Remove the bolts -1, 3 and 5-.

-- Release the retaining tabs -4- in direction of -arrows- and remove the cover -2-.

-- Fold the cover -2- to the side.

-- Remove the heater core to the left.

-- If necessary, allow any remaining coolant in the heater core to drain outside of the vehicle.
