Front Seat, Removing With Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Universal Vehicle Protector :VAS871001

Follow the safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
To complete the procedure, a second technician is required to be at the following position. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING WITH FAULTY SEAT FORWARD/BACK ADJUSTMENT MOTOR - Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician. .

Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- /Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31-, Checking

-- Move the front seat into its highest position.

To avoid unnecessary repair costs, check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing the front seat any more.

-- Perform the following tests:

Check the fuse. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
Check the voltage at the connector station and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
Check the voltage on the seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
Check the voltage on the seat adjustment control head, and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

-- Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

-- If there is no voltage, repair or replace the wire. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

-- If the control head is faulty: replace the Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head -E470- / Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head -E471-. Refer to Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head -E470- /Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head -E471-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If the seat forward/back adjustment motor is faulty, replace the seat pan lower frame. Refer to OVERVIEW - SEAT PAN .

Removing with faulty Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- /Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31-

-- If necessary, remove the storage compartment. Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If necessary, remove the fire extinguisher mount. Refer to FIRE EXTINGUISHER MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If necessary, remove the Owner's Manual bracket. Refer to OWNER'S MANUAL BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connector from the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

-- Free up the electrical wire.

-- Remove the seat rail cover on the side sill side. Refer to SEAT RAIL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SIDE SILL SIDE .

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the faulty seat forward/back adjustment motor -3- with the bracket.

-- Remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails.

-- Push the front seat forward and back to remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails.

-- Tilt the front seat rearward.

-- Q3: remove the expanding rivets -1 and 2- and remove the cover -3- in direction of -arrow-.

-- Remove the expanding rivet -2- and fold up the section of the carpet -1-.

-- Unclip the cable holder -3-.

CAUTION:

Risk of airbag deployment.

Risk of injury.

- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.

- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.

- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.

- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.

CAUTION:

Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.

Risk of injury.

- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.

-- Disconnect the connectors on the connector station in the floor.

-- To protect the sill panel before prying out the front seat, attach the Universal Vehicle Protector :VAS871001 .

-- Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician.

-- Replace the seat pan lower frame. Refer to OVERVIEW - SEAT PAN .

-- Install the front seat. Refer to Installing .
