Wheel Bearing Housing, Removing And Installing, AWD: Removing

-- Before starting the procedures, determine the curb weight position. Refer to VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRINGS, CHECKING THE CURB WEIGHT POSITION FOR AXLE ALIGNMENT .

-- Loosen the outer drive axle threaded connection. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .

-- Remove the wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Install the Support Device: VAS6931/1 -A- to the brake rotor -1- using two wheel bolts -2-.

-- Position the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 -B- at the support device and lift the wheel bearing housing slightly, doing so will make it easier to disconnect the threaded connections.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of an accident when lowering the vehicle when the engine and gearbox jack is underneath it.

- Never lower the vehicle when the engine and gearbox jack is underneath it.

- Never leave the engine and gearbox jack under the vehicle any longer than necessary.

TIP:

If the wheel bearing housing is being replaced and the old wheel bearing unit reinstalled, the wheel bearing unit must be removed. Refer to WHEEL BEARING UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AWD .

-- If necessary, remove the brake shield. Refer to BRAKE SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connectors:

For the ABS Speed Sensor
For the Electro-Mechanical Parking Brake Motor

-- Place the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 -1- under the tie rod and push lightly upward.

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 3- one after the other.

-- Move the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 to the side.

-- Remove the nut -1- and remove the washer -2-.

-- Remove the bolt -4- and remove the washer -3-.

-- Remove the bolt -4- for the tie rod -3-.
