Undamaged Rear Window, Removing, SPORTBACK

• Pay attention to the repair information. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
• Required Tools and Materials for Removal and Installation. Refer to REQUIRED TOOLS AND MATERIALS FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Preparing the tool:

-- Create a tool from a short piece of welding wire by bending the front end to make the smallest possible eye -arrow A-.

-- Bend the back end to avoid poking injuries -arrow B-.

Removing 

-- Remove the rear lid upper trim panel. Refer to REAR LID UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the rear window wiper motor with the grommet. Refer to REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR -V12-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the spoiler. Refer to SPOILER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SPORTBACK .

-- Remove the side spoiler. Refer to SIDE SPOILER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connectors and secure to the window glass using adhesive tape -arrows-.

-- Insert the Window Removal Set - Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  in the piercing awl -1-.

TIP:

To prevent any damage, cover the area where the piercing awl comes out at the rear lid with adhesive tape.

-- Push the piercing awl at the lower left side of the rear window from the inside outward through the adhesive bead -arrow- and pull the cutting cord outward.

-- Place the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  all the way around under the rear window.

-- Secure the other end of the Window Removal Set - Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  on the mount for the gas-filled strut -arrow- or on the rear lid unlock motor.

-- Secure the removal device -1- on the upper left of the inside of the window.

-- Insert the Window Removal Set - Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  in the reel device -arrow-.

-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.

-- Cut free in the left area of the rear window.

-- Offset the removal device -2- to the right upper edge of the rear window.

-- Slide the cutting guard -1- from the Window Removal Set:VAS 861 001A  between the window frame and the rear window to the guide the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  .

-- Cut free in the upper area of the rear window.

-- Offset the removal device -1- to the right lower edge of the rear window.

-- Cut free in the right area of the rear window.

-- To not damage the bolts, guide the cutting cord -3- from the cutting device under the right locating pins -1- and using a tool -2-.

-- Offset the removal device -1- to the left lower edge of the rear window.

-- Insert the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  in the reel device.

-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.

-- Push in the cutting guard -2- from the Window Removal Set:VAS 861 001A  to the guide of the Window Removal Set - Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  between the window frame and the rear window.

-- Cut free in the lower area of the rear window.

-- To not damage the left locating pins, guide out the cutting cord from the removal device again if necessary and guide under the locating pins.

-- Lift the rear window with two suction lifters from the window opening.
