Brake Caliper, Replacing: Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Install the brake pads. Refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Rotate the parking brake motor until the bolt and threads are aligned.

The parking brake motor must be flush with the brake caliper. Under no circumstances may it be pulled against the brake caliper with bolts.

-- Install the electro-mechanical parking brake motor (refer to LEFT AND RIGHT PARKING BRAKE MOTOR -V282- / -V283-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ) and tighten the bolts to the tightening specification.

-- Tighten the brake hose bolt -arrow- on the brake caliper.

Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly.
Make sure the brake hose is not pinched, bent, twisted or rubbing against the vehicle.

-- Remove the Brake Pedal Actuator: VAG1869/2 .

-- Only bleed the brakes on the wheel from which the brake caliper and the brake hose were loosened. Refer to HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, BLEEDING .

If the brake pedal still feels "soft", completely bleed the brakes. Refer to HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, BLEEDING .

CAUTION:

Faulty brakes increase the risk of an accident.

- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.

-- With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.
