Rear Glass Panel, Removing And Installing, A6 AVANT: Removing
-- Remove the headliner. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the front glass panel. Refer to FRONT GLASS PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A6 .
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the sunroof shade frame -1-.
-- To have a better view of the area where the piercing awl comes out, pull the seal -2- with the adhesive tape -1- forward in direction of -arrow- on the left front side of the glass panel.
-- Guide the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A with the piercing awl -1- between the glass panel and the roof frame and into the gap between the roof frame and sunroof frame in direction of -arrow-.
-- Pull through one end of the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A with the Hook Tool :T40207 outward in direction of -arrow-.
-- Place the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A all the way around under the glass panel and guide the free end with the piercing awl back inward.
TIP:
To insert the cutting cord under the cover profile, use the trim wedge -1- from the Window Removal Set :861 001A .
-- Engage the hook -1- from the Window Removal Set :VAS 861 001A on the bracket for the left rear roof grab handle.
-- Secure the left end of the Cutting Cord : VAS 861 001/1A to the hook -1-.
TIP:
Always offset the separating device in stages with the reel device when separating the adhesive beads. Above all pay attention to the glass panel corner points. If there is difficulty cutting through the adhesive beads, heat up the glass panel in this area using the Wiring Harness Repair Set - Hot Air Blower :VAS 1978/14A . Protect adjacent components from the temperature effects during this and note their permitted temperatures.
-- Secure the removal device -2- with the reel device at the inner front center -A- on the glass panel.
-- Tension the cutting cord -3- with the reel device.
-- Cut through the front adhesive bead in stages.
- The hook -1- remains inserted.
-- Offset the removal device with the reel device and repeat the procedure on the position -B-.
-- Secure the removal device -2- with the reel device at the inner front right in the edge -A- on the glass panel.
-- Tension the cutting cord -4- with the reel device.
-- Cut through the adhesive bead on the conner is stages. At the same time offset the separating device -2- with the reel device in stages in the edge.
- Guide the cutting cord behind the attachment points -3-.
- The hook -1- remains inserted.
-- Offset the removal device with the reel device and repeat the procedure on the positions -B and item C-. Note the following:
-- -C- : warm the glass panel in the area of the rear right adhesive bead using the Hot Air Gun :V.A.G 1416 .
- Neighboring components must be protected against temperature effects.
- Pay attention to the permitted temperatures for pyrotechnical components. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Secure the removal device -2- with the reel device at the inner rear center -A- on the glass panel.
-- Tension the cutting cord -3- with the reel device.
-- Cut through the rear adhesive bead in stages.
- Guide the cutting cord behind the attachment points -4-.
- The hook -1- remains inserted.
-- Offset the removal device with the reel device and repeat the procedure on the positions -B, C and D-. Note the following:
-- -B- : warm the glass panel in the area of the rear left adhesive bead using the Hot Air Gun :V.A.G 1416 .
- Neighboring components must be protected against temperature effects.
- Pay attention to the permitted temperatures for pyrotechnical components. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the glass panel.
