Headliner, Lowering, A6 AVANT

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Pry Lever :80-200 
• Removal Wedge :T40233 
• Scraper Set :VAS 6845 

Procedure 

-- Move the rear headrests into the lowest position.

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to Sun Visor, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the sun visor center support. Refer to Sun Visor Center Support, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the vanity mirror lamp. Refer to DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER VANITY MIRROR LAMP W20/W14, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to Roof Grab Handle, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-Pillar Upper Trim Panel, Removing and Installing  .

-- Loosen the B-pillar upper trim panels and move to the side with the strap. Refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  .

-- Remove the C-pillar trim panels. Refer to C-Pillar Trim Panel, Removing and Installing  .

-- Remove the roof end strip. Refer to Roof End Strip, Removing and Installing  .

Conditions

• Do not kink the headliner.

-- Carefully unclip the rear headliner in the center on the centering pin -1- from the body -arrow- using the Pry Lever :80-200  .

Conditions

• Replace the headliner if it is bent.

-- Free up in the headliner in the area of the inner door seals.

-- Unclip the headliner with the trim -2- and bracket from the screen separator mounting eye -arrow-.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- If equipped, unclip the cover -1- on the side using the clip-release lever no. 5 from the Scraper Set :VAS 6845  -arrow A- through -arrow C-.

-- Disengage the front cover and remove toward the rear.

Versions without Sliding Sunroof

-- Remove the front roof module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Carefully remove the headliner forward out of the D-pillar trim panel and lower it.

Continuation for all vehicles

Vehicles with sliding sunroof

-- Open the sliding sunroof.

-- To avoid dirtying the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge :T40233  .

-- Push the trim removal wedge between the frame -1- for the sliding sunroof and the headliner.

-- Using the trim removal wedge, loosen the headliner all the way around the frame for the sliding sunroof -arrows-.

-- Unclip the headliner -3- together with the front roof module -1- from the clamp -2- using the scraper no. 1 from the Scraper Set :VAS 6845  and carefully lower it.

-- Disconnect the connector and free up the wiring harness.

-- Remove the headliner -3- forward out of the D-pillar trim panel and lower it.

Continuation for all vehicles

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

Conditions

• A second technician is required to install the headliner.

-- Align the headliner, and inset in the left rear and lower right of the D-pillar trim panel.

-- Press the rear centering pin on the headliner into the body until they audibly engage.

-- Install the sun visor center support. Refer to Sun Visor Center Support, Removing and Installing .

-- Stretch the inner door seal lip over.

-- Clip the headliner into the screen separator mounting eyes.

Vehicles with sliding sunroof

-- Clip the sides of the headliner into the sunroof frame first, and then into the front and rear.
