Led Headlamp, Adjusting, 8EX, 8IT
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Headlamp Adjusting Unit released by VW/Audi
The headlamp must be calibrated after the following procedures:
- Headlamp position was changed (removing and installing, loosening and tightening the screws)
- The Headlamp Range Control Module -J431- has been replaced.
- A level control system sensor has been replaced.
- There is an entry in the DTC memory that indicates the headlamp basic setting is missing.
Requirements
- Pay attention to the testing and adjustment requirements. Refer to HEADLAMP, ADJUSTING, GENERAL INFORMATION .
Procedure
-- Turn on the low beams (but not set at "Auto").
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Vehicle functionality
- Adjusting/calibrating headlamps
TIP:
The headlamps move into the basic setting with this program.
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
-- During the program, it will be asked to perform a headlamp adjustment.
TIP:
The image and the following description apply to analog headlamp adjusting units. On digital headlamp adjusting units, for example Headlamp Adjusting Unit: VAS 621001 , follow the operating instructions. Refer to Headlamp Adjusting Unit Operating Instructions.
The headlamp adjusting unit must be aligned to the vehicle.
-- For that, put the headlamp adjusting unit in front of the vehicle in centered position, with a distance of 100 mm to the vehicle and align to the vehicle front. Refer to Headlamp Adjusting Unit Operating Instructions.
-- Slide the headlamp adjusting unit in front of the corresponding headlamp and check the alignment again.
- LED headlamp (8EX): The headlamp adjusting unit must be aligned to the center of the designated segment -arrow-.
- LED headlamp (8IT): The headlamp adjusting unit must be aligned to the center of the designated segment -arrow-.
- The horizontal cut-off line must touch the cut-off line -1- on the adjusting unit test surface.
- The bend point -2- between the left horizontal part and the right rising part of the cut-off line must run vertically through the central mark -3-. The bright core of the light beam must be to the right of the vertical.
- After adjusting the low beam according to the instructions, the center of the high beam light beam must be on the central marking -3-.
LED headlamps (8EX):
-- For height adjustment of the headlamp, first adjust the cut-off line under the separating mark using the adjusting screw -2-.
-- Then adjust the cut-off line on the dividing line starting from the bottom.
-- For side adjustment, turn adjusting screw -1-.
-- The adjusting screw -1- for the side adjustment must be secured with a plug after the adjustment is made on USA vehicles. Plugs. Refer to the Parts Information.
The right headlamp layout is a mirror image.
LED headlamps (8IT):
-- For height adjustment of the headlamp, first adjust the cut-off line under the separating mark using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Then adjust the cut-off line on the dividing line starting from the bottom.
-- For side adjustment, turn the adjusting screw -2-.
-- The adjusting screw -2- for the side adjustment must be secured with a plug after the adjustment is made on USA vehicles. Plugs. Refer to the Parts Information.
The right headlamp layout is a mirror image.

-- Disconnect the diagnostic connector.
