Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing From Camshafts, Cylinder Bank 2 (Left): Installing
- The crankshaft is locked using the Camshaft Lock :T40264/3 or Crankshaft Locking Pin :T40069 at "TDC" point.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 is tightened on the camshaft housing to 9 Nm.
- Replace the friction disk (diamond discs) -item 11- ) OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS and -item 12- ) OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS after removal.
Risk of destroying the engine with the friction disc not being installed.
- Check the installation of the friction disc (diamond disc) between the camshaft adjuster and the camshaft stub.
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing.
-- Bring the camshaft adjuster with the camshaft timing chain positioned in the previously described installation position at the same time pay attention to the applied markings when removing.
-- Oil the control valves -1 and 2- on the threads and the control valve contacts surface and install loosely.
- Both camshaft adjusters must be able to be turned on the camshaft.
-- Remove the Locking Pins :T03006 .
-- Have a second technician tension the Electronic Torque Wrench 3-60Nm :VAS 6583 with insertion adapter Hazet 6423C or Torque Wrench Adaptor :7370/10 with Torque Wrench Insert - Ring Tool Attachment AF41 :VAS 261 001 and Counterholder : T90001 on the intake camshaft adjuster to 26 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold.
- Pretension torque without using the insertion adapter Hazet 6423C or Torque Wrench Adaptor :7370/10 is 30 Nm.
-- Tighten the control valves with Socket E24 :T90000 as follows while the camshaft adjuster is still being held under tension:
- Control valve -2- on the exhaust camshaft 30 Nm.
- Control valve -1- on the intake camshaft 30 Nm.
Valve Timing, Checking
-- Remove the Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 .
-- Remove the Camshaft Lock :T40264/3 or Crankshaft Locking Pin :T40069 .
Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.
- Never turn the crankshaft and camshafts if the chain drive is not completely installed.
-- Using the Wrench - 21mm :T40263 and Adapter :T40314 , turn the crankshaft two turns -arrow- until the vibration damper is back at "TDC".
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing.
- The notch -1- on the vibration damper almost perfectly aligns to the locating tab -2- on the belt pulley side sealing flange.
Procedure, if the engine is NOT removed due to preliminary work.
-- Install the Camshaft Locating Tool :T40264/3 at the vibration damper opening all the way by hand into the belt pulley side sealing flange. If necessary, move the crankshaft back and forth slightly to center the bolt.
Procedure, if the engine is removed due to preliminary work.
-- Install the Crankshaft Locking Pin :T40069 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. If necessary push the crankshaft slightly back and forth.
Continuation:
- The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
- It must be easy to insert the Camshaft Lock :T40331/1
.
- Do not use a hammer to install the camshaft positioning tool.
-- Insert the prepared Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 all the way in the camshaft.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/5 engages as shown in the upper asymmetrical groove -1- on the exhaust camshaft.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/6 engages as shown in the flattened section -2- on the intake camshaft.
If the Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 CANNOT be Inserted:
-- Remove the Camshaft Lock :T40264/3 or Crankshaft Locking Pin :T40069 .
-- Insert the prepared Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 all the way in the camshafts as previously described. For this turn the crankshaft slightly.
-- Loosen the control valves -1 and 2- a half a turn using the Socket E24 :T90000 .
-- Repeat the adjustment. Refer to Installing Have a second technician tension the Electronic Torque Wrench 3-60Nm:VAS 6583 with insertion adapter Hazet 6423C or Torque Wrench Adaptor:7370/10 with Torque Wrench Insert - Ring Tool Attachment AF41:VAS 261 001 and Counterholder: T90001 on the intake camshaft adjuster to 26 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold. .
If the Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 can be inserted:
-- Remove the Camshaft Lock :T40264/3 or Crankshaft Locking Pin :T40069 .
-- Remove the Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1 .
-- Position the Counterholder :T90001 and Counterholder :T90002 on the intake camshaft adjuster.
