Steering Play, Adjusting

NOTE:

Two technicians are required for the adjustment.

Engine not running
Vehicle resting on its wheels
Wheels facing straight ahead

-- Move steering wheel back and forth (about 30° around center axis) and listen for knocking noise inside vehicle.

-- Have second technician turn adjusting bolt (arrow) far enough in so that knocking noise is no longer heard inside vehicle.

-- Turn adjusting bolt in about 45° or 1/8-turn farther.

-- Road test.

-- If steering does not return to straight-ahead position automatically, turn adjusting screw back out by about 15°.

-- Road test.
