-- Rear seat with passenger occupant detection sensors -1-, seat belt fastening detection -2- and/or thorax airbag -3- : remove the sill panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - VEHICLE INTERIOR TRIM PANELS .
TIP:
- The market-specific versions with passenger occupant detection sensor -1- and seat belt fastening detection can be identified by seat belt latches -2- with electric connectors.
- Equipment versions with a thorax airbag -3- can be identified by the "Airbag" name badge in the cover.

Risk of injury.
- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.

- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- Disconnect the connectors -arrows- and free them up.
Continuation:
-- Move the rear seat into the most forward position and fold the backrest forward.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Fold the backrest -2- toward the rear and adjust the rear seat to the rear position.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Fold the backrest forward again.
-- Lift the seat frame -1- at the front.
-- To protect the trim panels before prying out the rear seat, apply the Universal Vehicle Protector: VAS871001 .
-- Remove the rear seat from the vehicle with a second technician.
