Procedure 

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .

-- Move the rear headrests into the lowest position.

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center support for the sun visor. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the vanity mirror lamp. Refer to DRIVER VANITY MIRROR LAMP -W20- /FRONT PASSENGER VANITY MIRROR LAMP -W14-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Detach the B-pillar upper trim panels (refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ) and move to the side with the seat belt.

-- Remove the C-pillar trim panels. Refer to C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AVANT .

-- Remove the roof end strip. Refer to ROOF END STRIP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

• Replace the headliner if it is bent.

-- Carefully unclip the rear headliner in the center on the centering pin -1- from the body -arrow- using the Pry Lever :80-200  .

-- Free up in the headliner in the area of the inner door seals.

-- Unclip the headliner -1- with the trim -2- and bracket from the screen separator mounting eye -arrow-.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- Equipment version: unclip the cover -1- on the side using the clip-release lever from the Scraper Set :VAS 6845  -arrows A, B and C-.

-- Disengage the front cover and remove toward the rear.

Versions without Sliding Sunroof:

-- Remove the front roof module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Carefully remove the headliner forward out of the D-pillar trim panel and lower it.

Versions equipped with a Sliding Sunroof:

-- Open the sliding sunroof.

-- To avoid dirtying the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge :T40233  .

-- Push the Removal Wedge :T40233  between the frame -1- for the sliding sunroof and the headliner.

-- Using the Removal Wedge :T40233  , loosen the headliner all the way around the frame for the sliding sunroof -arrows-.

-- Unclip the headliner -3- together with the front roof module -1- from the clamp -2- using the scraper from the Scraper Set :VAS 6845  and carefully lower it.

-- Disconnect the connector and free up the wiring harness.

-- Carefully remove the headliner forward out of the D-pillar trim panel and lower it.

Assembling

• A second technician is required to install the headliner.

-- Align the headliner, and inset in the left rear and lower right of the D-pillar trim panel.

-- Press the rear centering pin on the headliner into the body until they audibly engage.

-- Install the center support for the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Stretch the inner door seal lip over.

-- Clip the headliner into the screen separator mounting eyes.

Versions equipped with a Sliding Sunroof:

-- Clip the sides of the headliner into the sunroof frame first, and then into the front and rear.

Further assembly is performed in reverse order.
