Camshaft Housing, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Secure all hose connections with hose clamps that match the ones used in series production. Refer to the Parts Information.
- The hydraulic lifters and roller rocker lever are inserted.
- Secure the crankshaft with the Crankshaft Locking Pin:T40069 .
Risk of contaminating the lubrication system with sealant residue.
- Cover open engine components.
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Clean the sealant residue on the cylinder head and camshaft housing -1- using the corresponding brush from the cleaning set for the sealing surfaces :VAS 294 019 .
- Brush:VAS 294 019/1 for gray cast-iron surfaces
- Brush:VAS 294 019/2 for aluminum surfaces
- Brush:VAS 294 019/3 for painted surfaces
-- Clean the sealing surfaces and grooves in the sealing surfaces of oil and grease.
- Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 mm).
There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Apply a light and even sealant bead as shown in the clean grove of the camshaft housing.
- Sealant bead width -1, 2 and 3- : 3.0 mm
- Install the camshaft housing within five minutes of applying the sealant.
- After installing the camshaft housing, let the sealant harden for approximately 30 minutes.
- The compression ring ends -1- and -2- must face upward and must never face sideways.
-- Mount the camshaft housing on the cylinder head.
-- Install and tighten the camshaft housing bolts.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Secure all hose connections with hose clamps that match the ones used in series production. Refer to the Parts Information.
-- Install the camshaft timing chain. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
-- Install the crankcase ventilation module. Refer to CRANKCASE VENTILATION MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
