Crankshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Plastigage

Procedure 

-- Remove the bearing cap.

-- Clean the bearing cap and bearing journals.

-- Place the Plastigage on the entire width of the bearing journal or into the bearing shells.

• The Plastigage must rest in the center of the bearing shell.

-- Place the bearing cap and fasten with the old bolts Refer to Figure, do not turn the crankshaft.

-- Reinstall the bearing cap.

-- Compare the width of the Plastigage with the measuring scale.

Radial clearance:

• New: 0.022 to 0.042 mm.
• Wear limit: 0.062 mm.

-- Replace the bolts for the final assembly.
