Shift Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Engage the parking brake.

-- Remove the center console insert. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE INSERT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the air filter housing. For gasoline, refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the connection -1-.

-- Remove the battery tray and the battery. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ball socket -1- on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the Pry Lever:80-200 .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the operating cable by deforming it.

- Never sharply bend or kink the operating cable.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the tunnel heat shield. Refer to FRONT HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the shift mechanism -1-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- in the vehicle interior.

-- Remove the selector mechanism downward.
