Brake Fluid Reservoir, Removing And Installing, LHD Vehicle: Removing
All vehicles excluding 2.5L TFSI:
-- Remove the battery. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Vehicle with 2.5L FSI:
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation for All Vehicles:
Leaking brake fluid increases the risk of injury.
Risk of skin irritation and injury.
- Wear safety gloves.
There is a risk of contamination and paint damage from leaking brake fluid.
- Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.
Risk of accident due to the brakes malfunctioning.
- Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gasoline, cleaning solutions).
- Wear safety gloves that are free of oil and grease.
-- Open the brake fluid reservoir (example illustration).
Risk of accident due to the brakes malfunctioning.

- Wear safety gloves that are free of oil and grease.
-- Extract as much brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir as possible using the Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment:VAS 6860 or Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit:VAS 5234 with a suction hose.
-- To protect against escaping brake fluid, place enough lint-free cloths in the area below the brake master cylinder.
Vehicle with manual transmission:
-- Remove the clutch master cylinder return hose -4- on the brake fluid reservoir -1-.
-- Immediately close the hose with a clean plug and tie upward.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Brake Booster Control Module -J539-.
-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch -F34- (different installation positions).
-- Drive out the locking pin -4- and remove the brake fluid reservoir -3- from the plugs.
