Alcohol Interlock System - Wires, Routing And Connecting

• Route the wires so they cannot get clamped or worn out.

Installing

Prepare the vehicle interior for installation

-- Switch off the ignition.

-- Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Free up the Light Switch -E1-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTROLS .

-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Loosen the center console and pull back slightly. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

LHD vehicle

-- Remove the A-pillar right lower trim panel. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the B-pillar right lower trim panel. Refer to B-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation for all vehicles

RHD vehicles

-- Remove the A-pillar left lower trim panel. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Route and connect the LIN bus wire

-- Remove the flat connector -1- at the Light Switch -E1- -2-.

-- Unpin the LIN bus wire green/white to PIN A1 from the flat connector housing -1-.

-- Pin the purple/black wire -1- from the retrofit wiring set to PIN A1 at the flat connector housing to the Light Switch -E1-.

-- Pin the previously unpinned LIN bus wire green/white -4- and the LIN bus wire purple/black -5- from the retrofit wiring set in the flat connector -3-.

-- Connect the socket -2- and the flat connector -3-, pull over the protective pipe.

-- Wrap the wiring harness to the flat connector -1- at the Light Switch -E1- -2- using cloth tape.

-- Connect the flat connector at the Light Switch -E1- again.

LHD vehicle

-- Route the prepared LIN bus wire purple/black -1- from the Y-adapter along the instrument panel crossmember up to the rear of the glove compartment.

-- Route the LIN bus wire purple/black from the Y-adapter up to the rear of the glove compartment -1-.

Route the positive cable terminal 30 and connect

-- Insert the fuse panel single fuse -1- into the fuse panel -4-.

-- Do not yet connect the fuse 10 A.

-- Slightly lift and turn the Fuse Panel C -SC- -2- with the wires still connected. Refer to FUSE PANEL C -SC- UNDER LEFT INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Route the red positive cable from the retrofit wiring set from the fuse panel single fuse to the location E1 -1- in the fuse panel C -2- and connect.

LHD vehicle

-- Route the positive cable 30 red -3- from the fuse panel C -1- along the instrument panel crossmember up to the rear of the glove compartment. Secure the positive cable every 20 cm together with the LIN bus wire purple/black -2- using cable ties.

-- Route the positive cable terminal 30 red -2- up to the rear of the glove compartment and secure with cable ties.

Route the ground wire terminal 31 and connect

-- Lift off the carpet at the side sill, free up the ground connection -4-.

-- Remove the ground connection nut. Refer to Wiring Diagrams, Component Locations: Ground Connection.

-- Install the prepared ground wire terminal 31 brown -3- to the ground connection -4-, then route along the wiring harness. Combine the ground wire with the positive cable terminal 30 red -1- as well as the LIN bus wire purple/black -2- behind the glove compartment. Secure all 20 cm with the cable tie.

RHD vehicles

-- Lift off the carpet at the side sill, free up the ground connection -4-.

-- Remove the ground connection nut. Refer to Wiring Diagrams, Component Locations: Ground Connection.

-- Screw the prepared ground wire terminal 31 brown -1- to the A-pillar ground connection -4-. Combine the ground wire with the positive cable terminal 30 red -2- and the LIN bus wire purple/black -3- behind the glove compartment. Secure all 20 cm with the cable tie.

Wire routing in glove compartment

-- Drill an 11 mm diameter hole in the glove compartment and install a grommet -1- 4B0 971 908 A.

-- Combine the wires -2- in a mesh sleeve, add a heat-shrinkable tube and insert it through the grommet -1-, about 25 cm into the glove compartment.

-- Connect the alcohol interlock system inside the glove compartment, following the manufacturer instructions and secure it in the glove compartment.

-- Further installation is performed in reverse order of the removal.
