Bumper Cover, Removing And Installing, A3/S3: Removing

-- Remove the lock carrier trim panel. Refer to LOCK CARRIER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Unclip the cover -2- from the luggage compartment side trim panel.

-- If equipped, remove the plugs -1-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrow- using the Body Socket:T40078  .

-- Remove the tail lamp. Refer to OVERVIEW - BODY TAIL LAMPS .

-- Remove the bolts -1-, if applicable.

-- Remove the bolts -3-.

-- Push the rear wheel housing liner -2- to the side.

-- Remove the bolt -4-.

-- Sedan: remove the bolts -1- as well as the nuts -3- and the underbody trim panel -2-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the lower section of the bumper cover.

TIP:

On vehicles with a trailer hitch the trailer hitch must be removed.

-- Pull the retainer -1- upward -arrow-.

-- Disengage the bumper cover side piece from the side panel and remove the bumper cover -2- slightly.

-- Disengage the bumper cover side piece -1- on the side panel outward -arrow A- and remove the bumper cover -3- slightly toward the rear -arrow B- with the help of a second technician.

-- Disconnect the connectors -2-.

-- Lay the bumper cover on a soft surface.
