Rear Axle, Removing And Installing, Torsion Beam Axle: Removing

-- Before starting the procedures, determine the curb weight position. Refer to VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRINGS, CHECKING THE CURB WEIGHT POSITION FOR AXLE ALIGNMENT .

-- Release the parking brake.

-- Remove the rear wheels. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Remove the rear underbody trim panels. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .

-- Disconnect the left and right connector -2- for the ABS speed sensor.

-- Disconnect the left and right connector -1- for the electromechanical parking brake motor.

-- Free up the left and right wire -1- from the bracket -2- on the axle beam -arrows-.

-- Remove the left and right brake calipers and detach it using a suitable wire. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicle with Level Control System Sensor:

-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Left Rear Level Control System Sensor -G76- and free up the wire.

Vehicle with Level Control System Sensor and Clipped Lever:

-- Release the catch -5- in the direction of -arrow A- and pivot the sensor lever -4- upward in direction of -arrow B- and disengage from the axle beam.

Vehicle with Level Control System Sensor and Bolted Lever:

-- Remove the bolt -1-.

-- Remove the lever from the Left Rear Level Control System Sensor -G76- -2- from the axle beam -3-.

-- Free up the brake line -1- on the right mounting bracket -arrow- the clip is destroyed while doing this.

-- Remove the springs. Refer to SPRING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center stone chip protection on the rear axle. Refer to CENTER STONE CHIP PROTECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931 -2- with mounting plate -1- under the axle beam and secure using the corresponding tensioning strap.

-- Free up the left and right wire -2- on the mounting bracket -1- and on the axle beam.

CAUTION:

Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.

- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.

- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the left and right position on the mounting bracket -1- for example using a felt-tip pen and bolts.

-- Lightly pretension the rear axle using the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931 .

-- Remove the left and right bolt -1- on the shock absorber -2-.

-- Lower the rear axle with the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931 .
