Overview - Drive Axle, Bolted: Notes

- Outer CV Joint
- Only replace completely
- Removing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, INSERTED, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Installing: Using a plastic hammer, drive onto the shaft as far as the stop
- Divide the grease evenly in the joint
- Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
- Bolt
- Replace after removing
- Bolt, Loosening and Tightening. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
- Clean the threads in the CV joint with a thread tap before installing.
- Drive Axle
- Allocation. Refer to the => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA).
- Removing and Installing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Clamp
- Replace after removing
- Tensioning. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- CV Boot
- Check for tears and scuffing
- Clamp
- Replace after removing
- Tensioning. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Plate Spring
- With inner spline
- Installation position. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING => Installation position of the plate spring -1- on outer joint. .
- Circlip
- Replace after removing
- Insert in shaft groove
- CV Joint CV Boot
- Without vent hole
- Check for tears and scuffing
- Removing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Before assembling the CV joint coat the sealing surface using Grease. Refer to the => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA) for the allocation.
- Clamp
- Replace after removing
- Tensioning. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Backing Plate
- Bolt
- Replace after removing
- Tightening Specifications
- Pre-tightening: 10 Nm diagonally
- Final tightening specification 20 Nm +180° diagonally
- Cap
- Replace after removing
- Removing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Installing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Adhesive surface must be free of oil and grease
- Circlip
- Replace after removing
- Removing and installing with Circlip Pliers:VW161A
- Seal
- Replace after removing
- The adhesive surface on CV joint must not have any grease or oil on it.
- Inner CV Joint
- Only replace completely
- Divide the grease evenly in the joint
- Removing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Installing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
- Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
- Plate Spring
- With inner spline
- Installation position. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING => Installation position of the plate spring -1- on inner joint. .
