Wheel Bearing Housing, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Loosen drive axle bolt on the wheel hub. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .

-- Remove the brake rotor. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ABS speed sensor. Refer to RIGHT FRONT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -G45- /LEFT FRONT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -G47-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolt -1-, remove the bracket -2- with the brake hose from the wheel bearing housing and tie up to the side.

-- Remove and free up the brake line bracket and wires from the wheel bearing housing.

-- Position the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931  with the mounting plate under the wheel bearing housing.

-- To protect the threads remove the nut on the joint pin tie rod head until it is flush with the threads of the joint pin.

-- Position the Puller - Ball Joint:T10187  -1- and press off the tie rod end from the wheel bearing housing.

-- Remove the nut on the tie rod end.

Vehicle with Level Control System Sensor:

-- If equipped, remove the stone chip protection (refer to the illustration below) or the air duct (refer to the illustration below).

-- Remove the nut -1- and free up the lever -2- for the level control system sensor on the control arm -3-.

-- Disconnect the connector -arrow- on the wheel bearing housing on the suspension strut.

-- Insert Spreader Tool:3424  into the wheel bearing housing.

-- Turn the spreader with a ratchet 90°.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows-.

-- Remove the control arm from the ball joint.

• Make sure the ball joint rubber boot is not damaged during assembly work. If necessary protect the ball joint rubber boot against damage.

-- Remove the wheel bearing housing downward from the shock absorber tube.

-- Remove the hub from the drive axle outer joint.

TIP:

If the components cannot be separated, press the drive axle out of the wheel bearing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, PRESSING OUT OF WHEEL BEARING .

• The drive axle must not hang down, otherwise the inner joint will be damaged by over bending.

-- Remove the wheel bearing housing with the ball joint.
