Inner CV Joint, Checking: Removing

- Ball hub and joint piece are paired. Before removal mark for example using a felt-tip pen.
-- Pivot the ball hub with the ball cage -1- and remove it in the direction of -arrow- from the joint -2-
-- Press the balls out of the ball cage.
-- Tip the ball hub -1- out of the ball cage -2- through the running path of ball -arrows-.
-- Check the joint, ball hub, ball cage and balls for small broken off depressions (pitting) and chafing.
TIP:
Excessive backlash in joint will be noticed as a knock during load changes. Joint must be replaced in such cases. Flattening and running marks on the balls are no reason to replace the joint.
