Cylinder Head, Removing And Installing: Removing

• During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
• Cover the opening of the transmission with a cloth, so that no coolant enters the clutch housing.

-- Drain the coolant. Refer to DRAIN THE COOLANT .

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the connectors from the bracket and disconnect them, and then free up the wires (example illustration):

1. For the Oxygen Sensor 1 after Catalytic Converter -GX7-
2. For the Oxygen Sensor 1 before Catalytic Converter -GX10-

-- Remove the bolt -1-, turn the connection in the -direction of the arrow- and remove.

-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the air duct hose.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122  .

Audi A1 from MY 2018:

Refer to the appropriate Service Information.

Audi A3 from MY 2021/Q2 from MY 2016/Q3 from MY 2019/TT from MY 2015 with particulate filter:

-- Loosen the hose clamps -2- and remove the hoses.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and free up the control lines (example illustration).

Audi A3 from MY 2021/Q2 from MY 2016/Q3 from MY 2019/TT from MY 2015:

-- Remove the Oxygen Sensor 1 before Catalytic Converter -GX10-. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolt -1- and the screw-type clamp.

-- Loosen the bolt -2- and disengage the catalytic converter upward and push to the side. (Shown with the engine removed.)

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and nuts -1- and remove the heat shield.

-- Remove the front air duct pipe. Refer to FRONT AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front coolant pipe. Refer to FRONT COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Lift the clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose.

Vehicles with generator:

-- Disconnect the connectors:

1. For the Throttle Valve Control Module -GX3-
2. For the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor -G71-

-- Free up the wiring harness and push to the side.

-- Remove the connectors -2 and 3- from the bracket and disconnect.

-- Disconnect the connectors -4 and 5-.

-- Remove the bolts -1- from the bracket.

Vehicles with starter generator:

-- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connectors (example illustration).

2 -  For the Reduced Oil Pressure Switch -F378-

3 -  For the Piston Cooling Nozzle Control Valve -N522-

-- Loosen the hose clamp -1- and remove the rear coolant hose.

-- Free up the coolant hoses.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - G62-.

Vehicles with Secondary Air System:

-- Disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Free up the coolant hoses.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and push the oil supply line -1- to the side.

Audi A3 from MY 2021:

-- Remove the right drive axle heat shield. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, and remove the coolant connection -1- and the oil return line -2-.

-- Disconnect and free up the connector -arrow- for the Charge Air Pressure Control Module -GX34-.

-- Remove the spark plugs with the Spark Plug Removal Tool:3122 B  .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the cylinder head bolts using the Socket - XZN 12:T40270  in sequence -1 through 10-.

-- Check if all hose and line connections are loosened.

-- Remove the cylinder head.

-- Lay the cylinder head on a soft surface, such as foam.

-- Seal the open channels of the intake and exhaust tract with clean cloths or with thoroughly cleaned plugs from the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122  .
