Turbocharger, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
- On a turbocharger with mechanical damage pay attention to foreign objects in the engine. Refer to FOREIGN OBJECTS IN ENGINE .
-- Drain the coolant. Refer to DRAIN THE COOLANT .
Audi A3 from MY 2021/Q2 from MY 2016/Q3 from MY 2019:
-- Remove the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the Oxygen Sensor 1 before Catalytic Converter -GX10-. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left air duct pipe. Refer to LEFT AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the cylinder ignition coils "2, 3 and 4". Refer to IGNITION COILS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Vehicle with Engine in Performance Class 2:
-- Disconnect the connector -1- for the Turbocharger Recirculation Valve -N249-.
-- Remove the bolt -1-, turn the connection in the direction of -arrow- and remove.
Vehicle with Engine in Performance Class 3:
-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Turbocharger Speed Sensor 1 -G688-.
-- If installed, remove the nut -1- and bolts -arrows-, and remove the bracket.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the connection -1-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the connectors:
- For the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80-
- For Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor -G1037-, only for vehicles with particulate filter
- For the Camshaft Position Sensor 3 -G300-
- For the Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve -N276- /Fuel Metering Valve -N290-
-- Disconnect the connectors -arrows- from the cam adjustment actuator.
-- Free up the wiring harness and pivot it forward.
-- Remove the upper coolant pipe. Refer to UPPER COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the cam adjustment actuators for cylinder 2 to 4. Refer to CAM ADJUSTMENT ACTUATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Loosen the hose clamps -1 and 2- and remove the coolant hoses.
Risk of destroying the coolant pipes through deformation.
- Never change the coolant pipe bend shape.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and pivot the coolant ventilation line to the side.
-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the air duct hose.
Risk of injury due to flying soot particles.
Irritation and injury to skin and eyes possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
-- Remove the bolt -1- and the screw-type clamp.
-- Loosen the bolt -2- and disengage the catalytic converter upward and push to the side. (Shown with the engine removed.)
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and nuts -1- and remove the heat shield.
Vehicles with a Particulate Filter:
-- Loosen the hose clamps -2- and remove the hoses.
-- Remove the bolt -1- and free up the control lines (example illustration above).
-- Disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor -G1037- with the bracket.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Push the release buttons on the hose -1- for the crankcase ventilation on both sides and remove the Venturi injector (example illustration above).
Vehicle with Engine in Performance Class 2:
-- Free up the coolant hoses.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and push the oil supply line -1- to the side.
Vehicle with Engine in Performance Class 3:
-- Free up the coolant hoses.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and push the oil supply line -1- to the side.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, and remove the coolant connection -1- and the oil return line -2-.
-- Disconnect and free up the connector -arrow- for the Charge Air Pressure Control Module -GX34-.
-- Pry out and dispose of the locking plate -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the nuts -1 to 4-.
-- Remove the turbocharger from the cylinder head and remove it upward.
