Coolant, Draining And Filling: Notes

- Shop Crane - Drip Tray :VAS6208
- Hose Clip Pliers :VAS6340
- Hose Clip Pliers :VAS6362
- Refractometer :T10007A
- Protective Eyewear
- Safety Gloves
Drain the Coolant
-- Remove the right cover -1- toward the rear in direction of -arrows- and remove.
The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is warm. There is a risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.
Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a cloth and carefully opening it.
-- Open the coolant expansion tank cap -1- by releasing the catch -arrow-.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Remove the right front wheel spoiler. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Place the Shop Crane - Drip Tray :VAS6208 underneath.
There is a risk of injury if the radiator fan turns on by itself.
- When performing procedures near the radiator maintain a distance to the radiator.
2.9L Engine:
-- Loosen the hose clamps -1 and 3-, remove the coolant hoses and let the coolant drain out.
3.0L Engine:
-- Loosen the hose clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose and let the coolant drain out.
Continuation for All:
-- Open the hose clamp -arrow-.
-- Remove the coolant hose from the right coolant pipe, hold it downward, and allow the coolant to drain (shown for LHD vehicle).
- Secure all hose connections with hose clamps that match the ones used in series production. Refer to the Parts Information.
-- Reconnect the coolant hoses.
