Gearbox Support:T40173 , Preparing:
-- The bracket -arrow- must be turned so that the longer side faces upward, as shown.
Procedure
-- Position the front wheels so they are in the straight-ahead position.
-- Switch the ignition off.
-- Activate the 48 volt electrical system and disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY A, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING, VEHICLES WITH HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM, (0K3) .
-- Remove the front exhaust pipe with the slip catalyst. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Remove the emissions control module. Refer to approrpriate Service Information .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -1-, and remove the EGR pipe -2-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Remove the screw -2- and free up the Differential Pressure Sensor 2 -G524-.
-- Disconnect the connectors and free up the wires:
- After-Run Coolant Pump -V51-
- EGR Motor 2 -V339-
-- Remove the rear coolant pipes. Refer to COOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -2 through 5- connecting the engine to the transmission that are accessible from above.
-- Install the tower brace. Refer to TOWER BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Secure the engine as shown with the :T10038 .
-- Remove the front wheels. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the subframe crossbrace. Refer to SUBFRAME CROSSBRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the right subframe shield. Refer to SUBFRAME CROSSBRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear and the push together. Refer to STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the ATF cooler. Refer to ATF COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and free up the parking lock emergency release cable -1-.
-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose.
-- Remove the left and right drive axle cover. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.
Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.
- Turn the engine only in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Turn the crankshaft an additional 60° turn in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.
-- Remove the six bolts -arrow- for the torque converter -1-.
-- Remove the right drive axle heat shield. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left and right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump 1 -V475- on the right side of the transmission and free up the wire.
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Loosen the right hose clamp -1-, disconnect the coolant hose and remove the Transmission Fluid Cooling Valve -N509- with the bracket.
Risk of destroying due to electrostatic charge.
- Do not touch the connector terminals.
- Touch a grounded object (for example the hoist) and discharge any static electricity.
-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise in direction of -arrow- and disconnect the connector -1- from the transmission.
-- Free up the wiring harness.
-- Remove the bolts -6 through 11- that connect the transmission to the engine.
Danger of causing damage to transmission components from improper handling.
- Never place the transmission jack on the transmission fluid pan.
-- Place the :T40173 on the :VAS6931 with the mounting blocks under the transmission as shown.
- Mount the front bracket on the left transmission side behind the opening for the torque converter on the transmission housing.
- Place on the right transmission side on the front mounting block on the front final drive.
-- Secure the transmission with the tensioning strap -1- from the engine and transmission.
Tip:
For clarity, the :T40173 is not illustrated.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the tunnel crossmember.
-- Remove the last bolt connecting the starter to the transmission gradually, and push the transmission farther away from the engine at the same time.
-- Lower the transmission carefully using the :VAS6931 , and pay attention to the wires and the SCR line while lowering.
