Muffler, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the front and rear tunnel brace. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY BRACING .

-- Remove the diagonal braces (equipped on some vehicles). Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY BRACING . Tighten the subframe bolts to the specification without an additional turn. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .

-- Loosen the clamping sleeves -1 and 2- and slide them toward the rear.

Vehicles with Red Retaining Loops:

-- Place the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support:T10337 on the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931 and position it at the bottom of the subframe.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of an accident when lowering or lifting the vehicle when the engine and gearbox jack is underneath it.

- Never lift or lower the vehicle when the engine and gearbox jack is underneath it.

- Never leave the engine and gearbox jack under the vehicle any longer than necessary.

CAUTION:

Risk of accident due to the heavy weight of the muffler.

- A second technician is required for the following work steps.

Continuation for All:

-- Disengage the retaining loop -arrow-.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the thread by using an impact wrench.

- When installing, position the bolts by hand and screw in the first threads.

- Do not loosen or tighten the bolts with an impact wrench.

Vehicles with Red Retaining Loops:

-- Remove the bolts -2, 3, and 4- and the muffler -1-.

-- Tighten the subframe bolts -2 and 4- to the specification without an additional turn. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .

Vehicles with Black Retaining Loops:

-- Remove the retaining loop from the brackets -2 and 4-.
