Rear Motor, Removing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Gearbox Support - Support:T40173/3
- Gearbox Support:T40173
- Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931
- Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm:3094
Condition
- Use Gearbox Support:T40173 tools with yellow chromated mount and joint head -B- or with valid CE-code -A-.
Removing
High voltage increases the risk of fatal injury
Electrocution can cause severe bodily or fatal injury.
- Have a high-voltage technician or a high-voltage expert de-energize the high-voltage system.
-- Refer to High-Voltage System, De-Energizing .
-- Remove the rear underbody trim panels. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .
-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the flange shaft. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connectors -1- and -3-.
-- Remove the nut -2- and free up the ground wire.
-- Free up the wiring harness to the subframe.
-- Remove the bolts -2- and -3-.
-- Disconnect the high-voltage cables connector -1-.
-- Free up the lower noise insulation on the motor and push it rearward.
-- Disconnect the connector -arrow-.
-- Free up the wiring harness at the bottom of the motor.
-- Install the support :T40173/3 on the Gearbox Support:T40173 .
-- Position the Gearbox Support:T40173 on the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 and support the rear motor.
-- Secure the motor with the tensioning strap of the engine and gearbox jack.
-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows-.
-- Lower the motor with the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 maximum 190 mm.
-- Place a cleaning cloth underneath, to catch cleaning coolant leaking out.
-- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm:3094 .
-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows- and remove the coolant hoses.
-- Additionally lower the rear motor with the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 .
-- If the rear motor is additionally disassembled and at the same time the contact protection on the high-voltage components is removed, an additional de-energizing must be performed.
