Glove Compartment, Removing And Installing
The following describes removing and installing on a LHD vehicle as an example.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Pry Lever: 80-200
- Wedge Set: T10383
Market-Specific/Vehicle Versions, Removing
-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
Risk of airbag deployment.
Risk of injury.
- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.

-- Remove the front passenger side instrument panel side cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Open the glove compartment lid.
-- Equipped on some models: remove the DVD Changer -R161-. Refer to DVD CHANGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the storage compartment -1- in the glove compartment using the Wedge: T10383/1 -arrow A-, to do so release the catches -B arrows- at the side carefully one after the other using a small flat-head screwdriver.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Slightly remove the glove compartment -1- carefully.
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
Risk of injury.
- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- North America market-specific version: remove the connector lock -1- -arrow- and remove the connector -2-.
-- Disconnect the connectors, unclip the connectors -arrows- using the Pry Lever: 80-200 and free it up.
-- Remove the glove compartment.
Installing Equipment/Market-Specific Versions
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
Risk of injury.
- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- North America market-specific version: connect the connector -1- to the airbag igniter -arrow A-.
-- Press in the connector lock -2- -arrow B-. While doing this, the connector is pushed into the airbag igniter all the way and locks into place.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Country/equipment versions: if the instrument cluster indicates a fault in the airbag system after assembly, the DTC memory must be checked, erased, and then checked again. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- Make sure the connectors are pushed in all the way and that they engage audibly.
- Make sure the wires are not pinched.
