Shock Absorber, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Before starting the procedure, determine the curb weight position. Refer to WHEEL BEARING IN CURB WEIGHT POSITION, LIFTING VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRING .

-- Remove the rear wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Remove the expanding rivets -2-.

-- Pull the wind deflector -1- slightly outward in direction of -arrow- and remove.

-- Install the Support Device:VAS 6931/1  -A- to the brake rotor -1- using two wheel bolts -2-.

-- Position the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931  -B- at the support device and lift the wheel bearing housing slightly, doing so will make it easier to disconnect the threaded connections.

-- Equipped on some models: disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the upper shock absorber fastener.

FWD Vehicles:

-- Disconnect the connector -1- and press together and remove the shock absorber -2-.

Equipment Versions with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC):

-- Bleed the DRC system (Dynamic Ride Control). Refer to DYNAMIC RIDE CONTROL (DRC), DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Remove the union bolt -3- and free up the hose line -1-.

• Protect any open connections against dirt.

AWD Equipment Versions:

-- Loosen the threaded connection -2-.

-- Disengage the upper shock absorber -1- from the mount to do so press the shock absorber slightly together.

-- Tension the Tensioning Strap:T10038  lengthwise on the shock absorber and push it together as shown.

-- Remove the bolt, and disengage and remove the shock absorber.
