Overview - Microphone Unit, Cabriolet, Before Product Improvement

The microphone unit is comprised of the Microphone Unit in Front Roof Module -R164- and the Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886- with the seat belt microphone.

The Microphone Unit in Front Roof Module -R164- is installed in the Front Roof Module -WX3-. Up to three microphones may be installed, depending on the equipment.

One microphone (Interior Microphone -R74-) is connected directly to the Digital Sound System Control Module -J525-. The other microphone (Left Front Microphone -R140-) is connected to the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- /Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886-.

The Microphone Unit In Front Roof Module -R164- in the Front Roof Module -WX3- can only be replaced as a complete unit. Replacing the individual microphones is not possible.

For IW3 and IV0, the Left Front Microphone -R140- is connected to the Data Bus on Board Diagnostic Interface -J533- and is >>looped through<< at the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- /Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886-.

For vehicles with IV1 through IV8, the Left Front Microphone -R140- is connected to the Control Module for Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit -J949- and is >>looped through<< at the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- /Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886-.

Right Seat Belt Microphones
- Cannot be replaced separately
- Refer to FRONT THREE-POINT SEAT BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Left Seat Belt Microphones
- Cannot be replaced separately
- Refer to FRONT THREE-POINT SEAT BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886-
- Connector Assignment. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Removing and Installing. Refer to SEAT BELT MICROPHONE CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Removing and installing, Microphone Unit in Front Roof Module -R164-. Refer to Microphone Unit in Front Roof Module -R164-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, CABRIOLET .

The Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886- is located under the left front seat. The seat belt microphones and the Left Front Microphone -R140- are connected to the Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886-.

The Seat Belt Microphone Control Module -J886- evaluates the signals and transmits the best signal to the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-.
