Fuel Tank, Installing, All Vehicles

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

The fuel lines as well as the wiring harness to the fuel delivery unit must be clipped onto the fuel tank.

-- Position the fuel tank with mounting straps on the underbody using the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 .

-- When positioning the fuel tank, make sure that the fuel filler neck is guided correctly into the opening of the body.

FWD vehicles:

-- Tighten the bolts -1 through 5- on the mounting strap and the fuel tank.

AWD Vehicles:

-- Tighten the bolts -1 through 7- for the mounting straps and fuel tank.

-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

All A4:

-- Engage the fuel filler neck on the mount.

-- TDI vehicles: install the reducing agent filler neck -3-. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Tighten the bolts -1 and 2-.

-- TDI vehicles: install the reducing agent filler neck -1-. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Tighten the bolts -A and B arrows-.

Continuation for All Vehicles:

WARNING:

Danger due to electrostatic charge.

After installing, check the electrical connection on the fuel filler neck threaded ring to a bare spot on the body using an ohmmeter.

Specified value: approximately 0 Ω.

-- Install the fuel filler door unit. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Install the bench seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- TFSI vehicles: connect the battery. At the same time, follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- After installing a new or completely empty fuel tank, at least five liters of fuel must be added before starting the engine.

NOTE:

Do not allow the fuel pump to run when the fuel tank is empty.

-- Country/Rest of World equipment versions: bleed the fuel line to the parking heater metering pump. Refer to FUEL LINE TO METERING PUMP, BLEEDING .
