Engine And Transmission, Separating, 3.0L Engine

Adapter:T40314

Procedure

Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on the :VAS6131B .

-- Vehicles with particulate filter: remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 3.0L ENGINE WITH PARTICULATE FILTER .

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and free up the bracket -1- with the wiring harness.

WARNING:

Risk of accident due to the heavy weight of the subframe.

A second technician is required for the following work steps.

-- Remove the left and right bolt -2- and remove the subframe to the side to do so remove the supporting mounting element. (Shown on the installed engine.)

-- Place a cloth underneath to catch any escaping coolant.

-- Loosen the hose clamps -2 and 3- and remove the coolant hoses.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and push the ATF cooler with the hoses -1 and 4- attached slightly to the side.

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.

CAUTION:

Components could be destroyed by the camshaft timing chain skipping.

Turn the crankshaft only in direction of engine rotation, in direction of -arrow-.

-- To loosen the crankshaft, counterhold the torque converter bolt using the :T40263 and :T40314 on the vibration damper.

-- Remove the six bolts -arrow- for the torque converter on the drive plate -1-. Turn the crankshaft an additional 60° in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Remove the bolt -2- as well as the nuts -1 and arrows- for the left front muffler.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and nuts -arrows- for the right front muffler.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the coupling element in the front muffler.

Do not bend the coupling element in the front muffler more than 10°.

-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- and the corresponding front muffler.

-- Vehicles with particulate filter: remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 3.0L ENGINE WITH PARTICULATE FILTER .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and move the right coolant pipe to the side.

-- Equip the :VAS6131B with the :VAS6131/10 and :VAS6131/11-1 , and :VAS6131/12-2 as follows:

The remaining mounting elements remain unchanged.

-- Place the left and right mounting element from the :VAS6131/10 and :VAS6131/12-2 on the engine.

-- Place the mounting element from the left :VAS6131/10 on the transmission.

-- Place the mounting element from the :VAS6131/10 and :VAS6131/11-1 on the right of the transmission.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Tighten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the :VAS6131B .

-- Remove the bolts -2 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

-- Loosen the bolt -1- for the starter.

-- Loosen the clamping screws on the side of the :VAS6131B and pull the rear table top with the transmission slightly to the rear, in direction of -arrow-. While doing so, remove the starter bolt completely.

-- Pull the transmission all the way to the rear. If necessary, lower it slightly using the front spindles.
