Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support:T10337 Preparing
-- Remove the rubber pad -1- from the :T10337 .
-- If this is unsuccessful, drill a 10.2 mm diameter hole in the center -arrow-.
-- In the hole cut M12 threads.
Requirements:
- General repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .
- Guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
- Follow all applicable disposal regulations.
- Replace the drain plug with the gasket.
- Replace the plug for the inspection and fill hole.
- The engine is off.
- Move the vehicle onto a 4-column workshop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.
- Transmission is in "P".
- The parking brake button is pressed to activate the electro-mechanical parking brake.
Draining
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Rear noise insulation, A4/A5
- Rear and center noise insulation, Q5
Risk of Accident Due to Loose Components
- The :VAS6931 may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.
-- Tighten the :VAS6131/10-3 to the :T10337 .
-- Place the :VAS6931 as shown on the transmission mount.
-- Slightly lift the transmission with the engine and transmission jack.
A4/A5:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and nuts -1-, and place the tunnel crossmember on the :T10337 .
Q5:
-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- for the front muffler/front exhaust pipe / EGR pipe.
-- Loosen the left and right clamping sleeve -arrow- and slide toward the rear.
Incorrect Handling Can Damage the Coupling
- Do not bend the coupling more than 10°.
- Do not load the coupling.
-- Push the clamping sleeves toward the rear, lower the front muffler slightly and tie up with the :T10038 as shown.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, and place the tunnel crossmember on the :T10337 .
All Vehicles:
-- Place the :SMN372500 under the transmission.
Risk of injury to the eyes by escaping oil.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the drain plug -arrow B- and drain the transmission fluid.
-- Tighten the new drain plug -arrow B-.
-- Install tunnel crossmember. Refer to TUNNEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the parking lock emergency release cable. Refer to PARKING LOCK EMERGENCY RELEASE CABLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Filling and Adjusting
- Gear oil temperature: approximately 20 °C (68 °F) (room temperature).
-- Place the :SMN372500 under the transmission.
Risk of Injury to the Eyes by Escaping Oil
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the drain plug -arrow A- from the center differential housing.
-- Install the :VAS6617/6 with the :VAS6617/2 in the inspection and fill hole in the transfer case hand-tight.
-- Connect the :VAS6617 and fill the transfer case with approximately 1 liter (1 qt) of gear oil.
- Transmission fluid. Refer to the appropriate Parts Information.
-- Wait five minutes.
- The inside of the transfer case is divided into several oil chambers. The chambers must be filled equally.
- A waiting time of at least 5 minutes is required so that the internal oil level between the center differential and oil fill space can equalize.
-- Remove the :VAS6617/6 from the transmission and let any extra gear oil drain out.
- Specified value: The level is correct when the transmission fluid comes up to the bottom edge of oil filler hole. Fill the gear oil once more if necessary.
-- Tighten the new drain plug -arrow A- for the center differential housing.
- It is not necessary to check the oil level again at this stage.
Tightening Specifications
- Drain and plug. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - DRAIN AND CHECK PLUGS .
- Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
