Battery Interrupt Igniter -N253-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 12 VOLT: Removing

Observe the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING (PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS) .

NOTE:

If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- turns on after a collision, check whether crash data is stored using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. If this is the case, check if the fault >>Resistance too high<< is stored in the DTC memory for the Battery Interrupt Igniter -N253-. If this is the case, the Battery Interrupt Igniter -N253- must be replaced.

The Battery Interrupt Igniter -N253- interrupts the electrical circuit each time an airbag is deployed. The Battery Interrupt Igniter -N253- must be replaced after a deployment.

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Remove the rear luggage compartment floor. Refer to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable when the ignition is turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Open the cover -1- above the battery positive terminal, as shown in the example.

-- Loosen the nut -2- several turns and remove the battery positive cable terminal clamp -3- from the battery terminal, for this, slightly move away the main fuse panel from the battery.

-- Release the retainer -5- and open the flap -4- over the main fuse panel -arrow-.

-- Remove the wire -5- and if necessary -6-.

WARNING:

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.

-- Remove the nuts -2-.

-- Remove the Battery Interrupt Igniter -N253- -5-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the ignition to do so release the connector lock with a small flat-head screwdriver.
