A/C System, Starting After Charging Refrigerant Circuit
- All removed parts are reinstalled.
- The refrigerant circuit is charged. Refer to A/C System, General Information or A/C SYSTEM, OPERATING AFTER CHARGING .
- Read the information for starting the A/C system after charging. Refer to A/C System, General Information or A/C SYSTEM, OPERATING AFTER CHARGING . After recharging, before activating the A/C system.
If It Is Necessary to Start the Engine with a Discharged Refrigerant Circuit:
- The refrigerant circuit must be fully assembled.
- There must be no vacuum in the refrigerant circuit.
- At least a quarter of the prescribed refrigerant oil must be in the A/C compressor.
- Engine speed must not exceed 2500 rpm.
- If the mechanically driven A/C compressor was removed or replaced, rotate it approximately 10 times by hand before using it for the first time (during or after installing, for example before installing the belt) to prevent damage caused by liquid impact when first switched on (any refrigerant oil in the A/C compressor cylinder is forced out on rotation). Refer to A/C COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
If the A/C Compressor was Replaced:
-- Also perform the test plan for automatic compressor cut-in using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Select Diagnostic mode and start the diagnosis.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Press the Select custom test button and select the following tree structure in order:
- Diagnostic-capable systems
- 0009 - Electronic central electric - J519
- 0009 - Electronic central electric, functions
- 0009 - Basic setting for climate control functions
- 0009 - Automatic compressor cut-in (basic setting 3)
Continuation for All Vehicles:
Note the Following When Starting Engine for First Time after Filling Refrigerant Circuit:
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Set "OFF" mode on the Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- ; the red bar on the A/C button does not turn on. The A/C system and the activation of the A/C compressor are switched off by the A/C Compressor Regulator Valve -N280-.
-- Start the engine when the A/C compressor is switched off ("OFF" mode) and let idle for at least five minutes.
-- Open all instrument panel vents and the vents in the center console and in the B-pillars.
-- Switch on the A/C system and activate the A/C compressor by pressing the Auto button on the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- ("Auto" mode selected, and the indicator lamps in the AUTO buttons and the A/C button on the Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- turn on).
-- If possible, select the SYNC and Rear functions on the Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060-.
-- On the Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- (and on the Rear A/C Display Control Head -E265- if equipped), check the indicator lamps in the AUTO buttons; if they are not turned on, then press the AUTO buttons.
-- Set the temperature preset to "cold" for all zones.
