Bearing Cap
- Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Pay attention to the camshaft housing pairing number and bearing cap. Refer to Fig 6.

- Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Pay attention to the camshaft housing pairing number and bearing cap. Refer to Fig 6.
- Pay attention to the camshaft housing pairing number and cylinder head. Refer to Fig 5.
O-Ring
- Replace after removing.
Check Valve
- For the oil separator
Exhaust Camshaft
- Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Axial play, measuring. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Radial play, measuring. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
- Maximum run out: 0.04 mm
Axial Bearing
Intake Camshaft
- Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Axial play, measuring. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Radial play, measuring. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
- Maximum run out: 0.04 mm
Alignment Sleeves
Bearing Cap
- Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Pay attention to the camshaft housing pairing number and bearing cap. Refer to Fig 6.
Bolts
- Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Fig 4.
- Replace after removing.

These multiple tightening to 9 Nm take into account the shrinkage of the components.

-- Tighten the bolts in steps as shown:

1.	-1 to 24-	Install by hand all the way The camshaft housing contact surface must lay entirely on top of the cylinder head
2.	-1 to 24-	9 Nm
3.	-1 to 24-	9 Nm

These multiple tightening to 9 Nm take into account the shrinkage of the components.

Cylinder bank 1 (right) is shown.

Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.

Exhaust Camshaft -6-

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1.	-1 through 5-	Install by hand all the way The bearing cap must contact the entire contact surface of the camshaft housing.
2.	-1 through 5-	3 Nm
3.	-1 through 5-	30° additional turn

Intake Camshaft -7-

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1.	-8 to 12-	Install by hand all the way The bearing cap must contact the entire contact surface of the camshaft housing.
2.	-8 to 12-	3 Nm
3.	-8 to 12-	30° additional turn

Camshaft Housing and Cylinder Head Pairing Number

Shown on the cylinder bank 2 (left).

Both four digit numbers must align: XXXX = XXXX.
Each camshaft housing is assigned to a cylinder head with this pairing number.
For the assembly pay attention to the correct allocation.

The three digit numbers -2- on the bearing cap -arrows- must align with the last three digits of the four digit number -1- on the camshaft housing.
Each bearing cap is assigned to a camshaft housing with this pairing number.
For the assembly pay attention to the correct allocation.

Component Location: in Cylinder Bank 1 (Right) Camshaft Housing.

-- Tighten the plug -arrow- with a new seal to 15 Nm. (Shown on Audi A8).
