Camshaft, Removing And Installing: Installing

CAUTION:
There is a risk of damaging the camshaft if handled incorrectly.
- Never push the camshaft adjustment sliding bar out of the camshaft splines.
- If the sliding bar for the camshaft adjustment is pushed from the splines of the camshaft the camshaft must be replaced.
The bearing caps are marked to the camshaft housing to prevent them from being incorrectly installed.

- The collar -arrows- on the bearing caps "5" point forward.
- The bearing cap "1 to 4" can only be installed in one position.
-- Bring the axial bearing -2- and camshafts -1- on the camshaft housing into the installation position.
-- Bring all bearing caps -3- in the installation position and tighten them while paying attention to the allocation.
- Pay attention to the camshaft housing pairing number and bearing cap. Refer to Figure.
- The alignment sleeves -arrows- must be inserted in the holes on the corresponding bearing cap and must engage in the hole in the camshaft housing.
-- Align the camshafts and insert the Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/1 all the way.
- The lettering on the camshaft positioning tool points forward ("A" for cylinder bank 1).
-- Tighten the bolts -arrows- hand-tight.
- The Camshaft Locking Device: T40331/6 engages in the flattened position -1- on the intake camshaft.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/7 engages in the flattened position -2- on the exhaust camshaft.
-- Install the camshaft housing. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
